I'm writing a book about security blankets and what we might have had as a child or what our children and/or grandchildren have cuddled or are cuddling up with. I'm looking for stories about security blankets (maybe a tale about something lost and then found) or unusual items used as security blankets. Thanks.

We once brought our grandsons home for a two-week visit, ( a 14 hour drive away), and their blankets were left behind.

Our dauther-in-law, sent the blankets to us by special (expensive) post... Blankies and other sleeping needs have never been left behind since that time

Since I love reading in general and especially reading to my grandkids, I think children's books are a good substitute for Security Blankets.  When I read to them at bedtime, I let them hold the book afterward and put them to bed with the book.  Whether it's a blanket or a book, it's something tangible they can hold onto.  Right now, when my grandson comes over to visit, I read him "Ladybug Baby Bug", by Janice and Mark Perkins.  There's an adorable baby bug on the cover and my grandson kisses it before he goes to sleep.  He also loves to carry it around the house as he gazes intently at the colorful illustrations.  When I was at the pediatrician's office the other day with my daughter and grandson, my grandson had the book with him and he was intently looking at the artwork.  The pediatrician said that the bold, primary colors stimulate young minds.  I didn't really know that before, but I'm glad I know it now.  It's a great story about the baby bug's day as she interacts with her family and friends.  FYI, I got it at Barnesandnoble.com.

Here's a darling story I discovered in a DVD of all places...this group of gals in NYC got together in a knitting circle to knit one of their friend's new baby a security blanket.  If you want to check it out, I believe it's called THE ART OF KNITTING DVD. I'm pretty sure Amazon has it....and it's how I learned to knit so I can now make my own security blankets!  What fun and so rewarding.
